Description
The cruel sport of equestrian balloon ascents was started by Testu Brisy in 1798 and quickly taken up by other aeronauts, who welcomed any new method of drawing a crowd. Illustration from 'Histoire des ballons et des aeronautes celebres: 1783-1800' (History of balloons and famous aeronauts), by Gaston Tisandier (1843-1899), published in 1887.
