This scene shows the furnace being tapped in the steel foundry at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's (LYR) Horwich works in August 1919. The railway companies preferred to be self-sufficient and their works encompased the compete range of manufacturing proceses. Even relatively small companies, like the LYR, had their own foundries.
