Father and coach Peter Coe shouts Seb on to the World 1500 metres record. The BBC interrupted the Nine O'Clock News to cover Coe (born 1956) breaking the record. Coe won his first major race in 1977 at the European indoor championships. In 1979 he set his first world record in the 800 meters and mile events, later that year he broke the world record for the 1500 meters. Throughout his athletics career Coe has won four olympic gold medals and set eight world records. After ritiring Coe became Member of Parliament for Falmouth and Camborne in 1992 but lost his seat in the 1997 general election. he was made a life peer in 2000 as Baron Coe. Currently Lord Coe is the chairman for the London 2012 Olympic bid. Coe is also an MBE and OBE.
