LNER 4472, Flying Scotsman by LNWR(?) overbridge, Sandy, Bedfordshire. NB dynometer car behind loco. 'Flying Scotsman' hauling the Flying Scotsman service, 20th Feb. 1934. The train at that time took 7hours 50 minutes for the 393 miles from London to Edinburgh via the East Coast Main Line. Before the Second World War the non-stop Flying Scotsman was a summer-only service.
