Poster produced for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) announcing the increase of signalmen’s wages. The poster shows a pair of hands manually operating the signals while a train passes by in the distance. Artwork by Austin Cooper (1890-1964), who was born in Manitoba, Canada, and studied art in Cardiff. Cooper began his career as a commercial artist in Montreal, but returned to London in 1922 where he designed posters for LNER, Indian State Railways and London Transport.
